Magazijn de Bijenkorf

Magazijn de Bijenkorf, known for its department stores, is also a leading online fashion and lifestyle retailer in the Netherlands, with a highly recognized in-house development team focused on enhancing user experience through their websites and apps. Despite extensive research efforts, there is no centralized database for storing findings, leading to repeated research and limited accessibility to data for the UX team, product owners, and business owners.

Explore

The research aimed to understand what a research repository should entail and how the company conducts, documents, and accesses current research, focusing on identifying challenges and user needs. Methods included desk research on existing repositories, interviews with users, stakeholders, and a UX Researcher, as well as observations and a focus group to gather insights on current platforms and user experiences.

02

Define

After the research, two flowcharts were created to outline ideal processes for documenting and accessing research, based on insights from desk research and the current tool Confluence. An evaluation report analyzing five research repository platforms was also completed, and a co-creation session on MIRO with the UX team helped address user group priorities identified during the Focus Group.

03

Ideate

After the co-creation session, a concepting session generated ideas and features for the research repository, starting with a POV statement and four re-formulated challenges based on research insights. Using 11 "How might we" (HMW) questions as prompts, the 6-3-5 brainwriting method produced 42 ideas, followed by low-fidelity sketches for three concepts, which were presented to the UX team for feedback.

04

Prototype & Testing

After discarding an initial Photoshop draft, reflection on research and evaluation led to a new design made with Sketch. This first design underwent moderated usability testing, and after feedback, a second, improved version was created, tested again by multiple users and an expert, leading to the final design of the research repository.
